Seventeen years ago, we searched for a peaceful life style in the Perth Hills Western Australia. We were lucky enough to discover Fawkes House and another dream was realized for our family.
Originally from the UK, we had experienced a year on teaching exchange in Paris, Ontario, Canada. Ten years teaching and living in Singapore we were ready for another adventure.
A place next to the ocean seemed an amazing opportunity to live the Aussie dream. The family enjoyed four great years in Mullaloo.
With our two boys off to uni we longed for a garden to tend and enjoy. The Perth Hills revealed the house of our dreams!
I had always wanted a wood burning Rayburn cooker. Richard a gravel drive!
Here they were in a stunning valley side setting, with so much more too.
Fawkes House Bed and Breakfast
The idea of running a bed and breakfast had always been in the back of our minds.
Ten years traveling in Asia, a year in Canada. A road trip across Canada and the Northern States of America. We had experienced an extensive range of holiday accommodation options around the world.
Fawkes House was born.
We began modestly as a simple bed and breakfast with Fawkes Cottage.
Our guests adored the ambiance, the luxury and attention to detail.
Two years later we embarked on turning the derelict first garage into the Coach House.
Respecting the heritage nature of our property we designed the Coach House. We retained the original coffee rock walls and high ceiling.
Check out the internal and external tin feature walls. They were the old original roof!
Over the years Fawkes House has changed and developed in response to guest feedback. Fawkes House Country Spa Retreat is a thriving successful business for the discerning guest to enjoy.
Success is judged on satisfied and returning guests. They often become friends and feel part of our ever expanding family.
Everyone plans to return and certainly recommend us to family and friends. We hope our guests enjoy and benefit from some of the tranquility and peace Fawkes House exudes.
The majority of our guests have stayed with us before. Others have discovered us through recommendations.
We constantly fine tune all aspects of the Fawkes House experience. Adding new unique features we have sourced through research and personal travel experiences. Valuing the lifestyle on our property we enjoy sharing this special place with guests.

Fawkes House History
The Fawkes family were early settlers in the Carmel Valley. They completed the substantial, brick and tile homestead c.1919.
George Fawkes assumed the whole valley, clearing the land by hand.
We have a selection of old photographs of the property in its early days. They are displayed on the front veranda.
The property was originally established as a grapefruit orchard. GeorgeFawkes, a nurserymen sold fruit stock on to the Italian orchardists moving to the area. A couple of the old original grapefruit trees remain in the garden. Can you find them?
Heritage Accommodation Perth Hills
We are only the fourth owners in about one hundred years. The house has been obviously much loved over time.
Magnificent gardens were established by the wife of a local doctor. There are many beautifully established trees and rare plants to enjoy.
Luxury Accommodation Perth Hills
Fawkes House Country Spa Retreat was established fifteen years ago when we renovated Fawkes Cottage. The lounge was originally the wash house. Garden tools were stored in the now renovated bathroom .
The bedroom was added about thirty five years ago. At the same time the oak tree was planted. This shades the cottage for the summer months.
About six years ago we renovated and extended the original old garage.
It started life with large double doors at each end and an old tin roof.
This is now our second cottage the Coach House. Mr Fawkes preferred not to reverse his car. He would drive in and then out the second set of doors!
We have re used the old roof as internal wall coverings much admired by guests!
Heritage Accommodation Bickley Valley
The main house is a perfect example of the Federation style.
There are characteristic tall chimneys, Marseilles tiles and a traditional veranda with gables and turned timber work.
Within, original ceiling roses and cornices, and polished jarrah floors abound. Decoration true to the period completes the picture.
We feel very privileged to live at Fawkes House and love to share the property with our guests.
